Safdar Khan, MD
Dr. Safdar Sultan Khan, known by colleagues as Safi, is an attending neonatologist with Central Ohio Newborn Medicine, a subsidiary of Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Born in a small town in Pakistan, Dr. Khan’s journey from a rural upbringing to a vital role within one of the nation’s top neonatal networks is a testament to his resilience, compassion, and unwavering commitment to newborn care. What inspires Dr. Khan most about neonatology is the chance to impact a lifetime in mere moments. With every successful resuscitation and critical intervention, he knows that his team’s efforts may gift a newborn decades of life—70, 80, or even 90 years. This powerful sense of purpose fuels his dedication and shapes his approach to every patient and family he serves.
Dr. Khan’s path began with his medical training at Rawalpindi Medical College and continued at John H. Stroger Hospital in Chicago, where he completed his Pediatrics residency. There, his commitment to excellence and compassion earned him awards for Best Clinic Resident and Best Teaching Senior Resident. Neonatology became his calling, a specialty that requires not only acute medical expertise but also collaboration with nearly every subspecialty, making it as challenging as it is rewarding. Pursuing his passion further, Dr. Khan completed a fellowship in Neonatology at the University of Kentucky and earned a Master’s in Translational Research, where he contributed to studies on biomarkers to improve outcomes for critically ill newborns.
Dr. Khan is known for his warmth and collaborative, family-centered approach, always valuing the family’s role in the newborn’s journey. At Central Ohio Newborn Medicine and Nationwide Children’s Hospital, he combines clinical expertise with an innate sense of compassion, striving to provide every infant with the best possible start and a lifetime of health and promise.
