Perihan M. Ulema, DO

Get to Know Me

As a medical student, Dr. Peri Ulema became interested in neonatology because of the challenging academic atmosphere within the field. Inspired by her neonatology mentors, Dr. Ulema taught many classes during residency and fellowship. As an instructor, Dr. Ulema received numerous teaching awards, as well as recognition from nurses and nursing leadership for her guidance of medical learners.

Also an accomplished researcher, Dr. Ulema received a novice research grant from the Gerber Foundation and two University of Rochester grants to lead a successful clinical research project on the early biomarkers of language delay. Dr. Ulema was honored to present her work at the International Conference on Brain Monitoring & Neuroprotection in the Newborn in 2019.

Dr. Ulema grew up in New Jersey and has lived near the Jersey Shore for most of her life. She is honored to come from a diverse cultural background, and has visited and experienced many different regions across the world — she has lived in France, and spent the summers of her childhood visiting Turkey. Dr. Ulema speaks conversational French, some Turkish, and also has some understanding of the Tagalog (Filipino) language.

Dr. Ulema moved to Columbus in 2020 to join the group. In her spare time, Dr. Ulema loves taking dog Lily on walks in the park, trying new restaurants with friends, and traveling when she can.
